The final month of 2025 has begun and the Christmas season is in full swing. We took the time to look back at the fountain pens that impressed us most this year which – all of which would also make for great writing companions in 2026
Our candidates for the title of Best Fountain Pen 2025 appear in no particular order. Each writing instrument, whether priced in the double digits or close to four figures, brings its own strengths and its own distinctive appeal.
Kaweco AL Sport Piston Filler Navy
After more than 100 years of Sport history, first introduced in 1911, Kaweco has launched its classic model as a piston filler. The Kaweco AL Sport Piston Filler in Navy is the latest Sport release from the southern German brand.
The Sport is known for its compact character: capped, it measures just 10.5 centimeters, making it the perfect everyday companion. With its charming piston mechanism and its aluminum construction, the AL Sport offers a well balanced overall package.
Graf von Faber-Castell Bloom Ebenholz
The Bloom series is Graf von Faber-Castell’s newest collection. Its design draws inspiration from floral motifs, reflected in the fluting that extends from the cap down to the handcrafted ebony barrel. The trim elements of the Graf von Faber-Castell Bloom Ebony are ruthenium-plated.

When writing, the new Bloom has a remarkable presence. Its comparatively high weight matches the brand’s refined workmanship, and its dimensions are similar to the Pelikan M800 or Montblanc Le Grand. Details such as the engraving on the cap‘s finial round off the pen’s cohesive appearance.
Waldmann Commander 25 Ltd. rosé
The Waldmann Commander 25 Ltd. rosé is a perfect example of German craftsmanship and earns its place among the best fountain pens of 2025. The pen from Baden-Württemberg features a wave guilloché pattern and lacquer finish. The screw cap mechanism and the substantial weight of the cartridge filler reinforce its luxurious character. The combination of the brown tone with the rose gold plated details is not only harmonious, it also brings a warm, aesthetic elegance to the design.

Pelikan M815 Metal Striped Blue
Seven years after the M815 Metal Striped Black, Pelikan has introduced a new metal striped model: the Pelikan M815 Metal Striped Blue. The piston filler has the classic dimensions of the Pelikan 800 series, yet its weight is closer to that of an M1000. This is due to the palladium plated brass stripes, which add roughly 45 percent more weight compared to the 800 series.
Speaking of palladium plated brass stripes: on the M815’s blue barrel they create an intriguing depth effect that gives the classic Stresemann look a distinctive twist. While searching for this year’s standout writing instruments, we were reminded of how diverse the 2025 releases have been. That applies not only to colors, shapes, and materials, but also to the different audiences and types of pen lovers. Some pens reveal their unconventional character at first touch, while others remain rooted in classic tradition. Ultimately, choosing a fountain pen is always a personal decision. And fortunately, it rarely stops at just one.
